PTV auctioning art for quake

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Television (PTV) has planned to prepare a special programme to auction works of art by renowned Pakistani artists to generate funds for the quake victims. The programme will be produced by Jamshed Farshouri and will be recorded on November 13.
Among other contributors of the programme, Professor Sajjad Shaikh has decided to put all his artwork, including paintings, drawings, sketches, calligraphic pieces and his art collection up for auction.
Prof Sheikh has also agreed to teach four hours a day at an Islamabad campus, in case PTV or ETV arrange his lectures for a group of 10 to 15 English literature students at the post-graduate level. Besides pledging a gift of 8,000 books to the proposed new building of the AJK library, his five lectures have already been aired by PTV.
Sajjad Sheikh is a retired senior professor of English literature and author and editor of several books, including English translations of works by poets Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Ahmed Nadeem Qasimi and Ahmed Faraz.
